The objects of hunting in Kamchatka

The objects of hunting in Kamchatka:

  • Brown Bear;
  • Snow Ram;
  • Moose;
  • Capercai;
  • Wolf;
  • Lynx, Wolverine.

Brown Bear

The brown bear is Kamchatka's most famous animal. It can be met everywhere at the peninsula territory. It is a huge predator. The adult male may weigh up to 600 kg; the length of the bear may be up to 254 cm. Females are smaller. The color of their fur varies from light brown to dark brown.

Nowhere in Russia such an abundance of brown bears can be found as in Kamchatka. The brown bears' population is appr. 12-15 thousand.

The hunting can be organized only with license, their number of licenses is limited.

Trophy: a skin & a skull.

Hunting Seasons:

  • Spring hunting: from April 25 till May 25.
  • Fall hunting: from September 20 till December 15.

In spring: the way of hunt is stalking with help of snowmobiles or skis.

In fall: we hunt near the salmon spawning grounds, in the berry fields and in Siberian pine cones feeding places. We use horses in tundra, motorboats & by off-road vehicles.

It is possible to hunt from the watch-towers near spawning grounds as well.

Moose

Moose is a huge ungulate animal. It inhabits the northern & the central parts of Kamchatka peninsula. The body's length is about 290 cm. The withers height is about 206 cm. The average weight of the animal varies from 700 to 800 kg.

Moose eats plants, trees & bushes' scions. Animals can migrate seasonally. They inhabit the areas near rivers.

Trophy: a skull with horns.

Hunting Season: from September 1 till December 15.

Typical hunting method is stalking, in off-road vehicles, in motor-boats on the rivers, in tundra — on horseback or land-rover, depending on the moose's inhabitancy.

Capercailye

The Kamchatka's capercailye is much smaller than species living outside the peninsula. The male's weight varies from 2.8 to 4 kg; the adult female weighs 1.7-2 kg.

It has grayish head & black nib. The neck & craw hackle are black with blue & green glimmer. The back & wings are grayish-brown. There are many white spots on the wings & sides. It has black tail with white spots; the tail is longer than the other species' tail. The legs have grayish-brown hackle.

In spring during courtship displays you can hear capercailye's warble. It is like staccato clicking. Gradually it increases & becomes more frequent. Capercailye can see & hear very well while warbling.

Hunting Season: from April 25 till May 25.

The hunt is very fascinating during courtship displays. You should keep patience & tolerance & You will have a success.

Terms and conditions: 6-8 days for hunting. Transportation to the hunting ground — in automobile. Each client has his own guide. Two-three persons per one camp. Hunting with help of snowmobiles, skis.

Hunting Ground: Ust-Kamchatsky region and Sobolevsky region

Accommodation: in city — in hotel, in the hunting ground directory — in hunting cabins.

The hunter is to be ready for skiing to follow animal tracks at low temperature (- 30°C).
